First, I should really apologize for not posting in a while. I’ve been super busy lates. I know that’s not an excuse, but it’s the truth. However, there are some great posts and happenings this week that I wanted to link to. I have a couple of posts coming next week, so there will be something good to read.

The Future of SEO
Almost in cycles, SEOs have to deal with nay-sayers. More often than not, these people have absolutely no idea what SEO is. David Wallace over at the SearchRank Blog has a great post on this subject titled: SEO Has No Future? Think Again! He gets a little cranky in there, but keep in mind that his (and my) chosen profession and livlihood gets attacked a lot.

Wait. So You Don’t Paint My House and Mow My Lawn?
With almost perfect timing, Mark Jackson wrote a post on SearchEngineWatch called Don’t Hire a Butcher to do a Baker’s Job. Just this week a potential client sent me to his designer’s website. Not only do they design websites, they also sell T.V.s. I’m really not kidding. This might sound cliche, but my father always told me «when you specialize in all things, you excel in nothing.» Mark talks a lot about designers offering SEO. To be fair, there are a few firms that offer this, but remember that 2 different departments will be working on your site. I have yet to meet a website designer that can out-SEO me. Not a bad thing, just 2 different services with vastly different focuses.

Nobody Likes Me At School
Again, with great timing, Jeff Quip over at Search Engine People wrote quick and dirty list of 50+ Sites To Help You Bury Negative Posts About You or Your Company! This comes at a time when I heard a really great story how a very minor issue cost a hotel a bit of money. I’ll post on that next week as well. Though this isn’t the be all to reputation management, this can be a quick and dirty way of beating the wolves back until you can get a professional to help (I hear the guys at 97th Floor do really neat things with Online Rep. Management).

I’m Almost Famous
A post I wrote for Anywired about 7 Signs of SEO Scams hit the blog this week. There are a lot of claims out there, and education is the best weapon an SEO and business owner can have against them. I received a lot of feedback from it, and hopefuly will be following up with a «Finding a good SEO» type of post.

On a similar note, as a result of the article, I was asked what types of resources I could provide for further reading and learning. We SEOs always share our XML files, but I figured I would take it a step further and send people to my Netvibes page. It isn’t really full of my stuff yet, but I had a few good ideas with it that I’ll be posting on as well.

I hope everyone has a great weekend. Just to add to the cliches today, I’ll leave you with a quote.

«Entrepreneurs do today what most people won’t, so they can have tomorrow what most people can’t.»

I have no idea who said that, but I like it.
