Everyone knows about the “elevator speech.” It’s what you give when someone asks “what is it you do for a living?” or some other variation of that chit-chat ice-breaker. The idea is to solidify your answer to that question in a nice, pre-packaged (I like hyphens today) response to share your profession in a way that someone could understand exactly what you do within a matter of moments. Hence the name “elevator speech.” It’s most commonly used by an entrepreneur to gain funding by a venture capitalist or as a pitch to a potential client.

Sometimes it’s easy to forget that you own a business, or are advertising it all the time; even when you’re not at work. Especially in an industry that requires so much customer oriented attitude, you should be very mindful of the perception you are putting forth.

Google Blogscoped reported today that, according to Google Trends:

“Apparently, people search for the word “Google” on Google more than they do for “music”, “movies”, “flowers”, even “sex”. And it’s happened in the last couple months.”

Hmmm…in the last couple of months.

Text-Links-Ads has a tool in which you can input a URL, and you will be given an approximate worth of a link purchased. For example, you put in http://www.seo-factor.com and it will tell you that placing TLA on my site isn’t worth the amount of time it would take to implement the code. However, there are a few that return funny results, due to the site in question’s status. For example:

With the recent uproar over Google’s request that people report paid text link purchasers, and the penalties that seem to be rolling over a large number of sites that buy and sell links, there’s a bit of fear out there for the site owners that take part in this method. I wanted to give a few tips on purchasing links, and a few things to keep in mind while considering to do so.

  • About

    SEO Factor and Josh Garner
SEO Factor was a Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and Website Promotion blog I started while working with Website Pros. As their SEO, I was the point of contact for a great number of people, including those that were hearing about SEO for the first time. At first, I used the blog as a way of documenting a lot of beginner SEO information. As with all things, the SEO Factor site grew and changed, and is now the main point of promotion for my services as in independent SEO.

As an SEO, I have been providing SEO services to small and medium sized businesses for 4 years on both an in-house and independent basis. I have a strong background in local Internet marketing, having worked on major hospitality brands like Marriott, Hilton and Best Western. I have also had the pleasure of working with large, national websites offering both services and products.

    My Thoughts on Working
Though I have nothing against the SEO firm model, I feel that I am able to offer a more attentive and economical service as an independent provider. Unfortunately, most firms have a double agenda. Sure, they may very well provide a decent service, but they also have to make a substantial profit. After years of working in-house or for an agency, I’ve found myself agreeing less with big company processes and policies, and wanting more out of the quality of my work and services.

To give you an idea of my work philosophy, I can tell you that there are no clean firetrucks in my office, and I try not to become or work with clowns or superstitious pigeons. This indirectly stands to reason why I charge per project as opposed to hourly. I prefer to work in the mindset of providing success and return, as opposed to more hours. In the end, I work smarter, not harder.

Please feel free to read more about my SEO services, the SEO Blog or contact me with any questions.

  • One Time SEO – Affordable Internet Marketing and SEO Services

It’s obvious that having a website for your business is a need. But just as important is the need to have visibility. Meaning, you need people to actually see your website. That’s where we can help. By optimizing your website and implementing an Internet marketing strategy, you can make full use of your website, and its potential online.

“Affordable SEO Services” Doesn’t Mean “Sacrifice.”
The problem with most SEO services boils down to 2 things; cost and quality. If you want quality, you’re going to pay for it. If you need to stay conservative, your left with unfulfilled promises and a bad taste about SEO in general.

why not a bit of both? We don’t make false promises or outrageous claims. We simply provide you with a strong base and a customized strategy to help your website, and your business succeed online.

Search Engine Optimizaion (SEO) has gone through many definition debates and changes over the last few years. In the end, SEO is simply the act of making changes to a website so as to achieve higher rankings. Now, that’s a very broad definition, and there is surely more to it, but you get the idea.

The fact remains that if you want your potential customers to see your website, you’re going to have to get it to the top of the search engines, and maximize its visibility online. To do this, you have to start by having your website optimized. And then, you have to implement a well-planned Internet marketing strategy.

Let a professional handle this stuff for you, and put you on the right path.

  • What Is RSS?

RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication. Instead of boring you with the gritty details (belive me, there are plenty of other places to get all that), let me give you the simple explanation.

RSS allows for others to grab your syndication, or ‘feed,’ so as to keep up with a blog or news site without needing to remember to go to the site specifically. The feed itself is really kinda useless without a feed reader though.

    Feed Reader
In order to make use of an RSS feed, you need a feed reader. A reader will allow you to keep track of multiple feeds from one location, allowing you to see what’s going on with your favorite sites all the time. Personally, I make use of Netvibes, but you can also make use of iGoogle or any other number of RSS Readers.

    How To
Once you have decided on a reader, you are ready to start grabbing feeds. Believe it or not, pretty much every site that you already visit likely has a feed. You can normally tell by the standard RSS Button:

If you click on my RSS Button, you see the following page:

To the right, you can see a list of common reader that you may use to grab my feed. If your feed isn’t listed, you can also copy and past the URL from your browser’s navigation bar into a reader of your choice.

Once that’s done, you can look at your reader to see a list of post titles for my blog, click on the desired post title, and continue reading the best SEO blog ever. Now, susbscribe to my feed.

  • SEO Service Details

    SEO Service Details

As with any business move, the SEO and Internet Marketing process will begin with a consultation with you to determine the campaign’s goals. This can be done via email, or a phone call at your convenience. Some questions to think about before the initial consultation (or before you make any small business Internet marketing moves with your site, with or without my help) would include:

What is your definition of success? How long has your site been active?Who is your target audience?

What are your goals with the site?

With both the local and national services, I will make use of the following methods of optimization and marketing to best promote your business’ site:

More information on these steps can be explored below.

These are the most common methods to basic optimization of the site. However, there are cases where extra efforts are needed. This can include rectifying improper syntax on the site with various coding languages that can prevent a search engine crawler, spam methods, internal linking, etc. These points are also taken care of as part of the service. The page being optimized will be completely undertaken by myself, Josh Garner, and optimized to comply with the very best practices of SEO.

    Keyword Research
Arguably the most important part of any Internet marketing campaign, your site starts with the selection of the appropriate terms. With research, we can determine the search terms that your potential customers are actually using, and the terms that will bring the proper traffic to your site.

Current Rankings, Traffic and Link Analysis
You can’t move forward if you don’t know where you are. Once the targeted search terms are selected, I will run a number of reports to determine your site’s current status in the search engines. Not only will this give us a better understanding of where your site stands, it will help to provide us with a better plan of action for your site’s next moves, pointing out the strong and weak points that need attention.

    Competition Analysis
The next step is to identify your competition. This will help us to determine a number of goals for your site including more keyword research and targeted link sites.

    Meta Optimization
I will optimize the meta tags of the site to promote the desired search terms and induce a higher click through rate. This will include optimization of the title, description, and keywords meta tags.*

    Content Optimization
Part of the optimization process also involves creating quality, optimized content on the site to focus on your major search terms, and attract a higher rate of link building once those efforts are implemented.

    Press Release/Article Distribution
As part of the promotion service, we will often make use of articles and/or press releases. A press release can be one of the most inexpensive and effective ways to get your site noticed by increasing relevant traffic and increasing link popularity. A properly written article can create an online awareness of your site, and the show the integrity of your service or product. Though an increase in link popularity can indeed result from a great article or press release, it is not the main focus of this part of the service. Articles and press releases are used more to increase the visibility online, and to promote awareness of your company.

    Link Building
One of the most important ranking and traffic building factors in SEO is link popularity. Once the site has been optimized, we will begin a link building campaign by approaching other relevant, and quality built sites, submit to directories, promote to social media groups, and paid links if and where appropriate.**

    Social Media Marketing
Depending on your business model, we will sometimes promote your site and business in various social media marketing areas. Beyond online article and press release distributions, social media marketing will provide a much higher potential for inbound links from other websites, as well as promote your business to a more targeted audience. We will create and manage various social media accounts to broaden the reach of your site’s coverage, and provide quality links and traffic to your site. Please keep in mind that Social Media Marketing will have varying effects for various types of businesses. It should be noted that some business models simply do not benefit from Social Media Marketing.

    Ranking Report
A monthly ranking report will be conducted and provided to you, showing your current standings in the search engine, your rankings the previous month, and the degree of change. This will be provided for the duration of the contract, with the option to continue thereafter.

We, Us and My Commitment to You
You may have noticed that I used the words “we” and “us” throughout these descriptions of the SEO services. No, there isn’t a team working on your site, just little ol’ me. However, it is important that you, as the client, take some part in the process. I will work with you through the steps to provide you with a better understanding of what methods are being used, how, and why. It is a personal and professional commitment that the services I provide come with satisfaction.

*The keywords meta tag has not as much an impact on your sites rankings as other factors. Due to years of abuse, the search engines have discounted any weight given to this tag. We do optimize it though for some directory submissions in the future (some of them pull from this tag) and so that there will always be an account of what terms are targeted for that page.

**It should be noted that paid links, currently, may sometimes come with a penalty by Google to the sites that sell them. Though there is no evidence of a penalty to the sites purchasing them, if a link is purchased on a penalized site, the money spent may very well be in vain. Any link build approach involving paid links will be discussed with you in detail before any action is taken.

If you are interested in any of my services, or just wanna talk SEO, feel free to contact me.
